Considering a renovation?
4 things to consider before you start your kitchen or bathroom renovation…
Ready for a major home renovation? Here are a few points to consider before getting started.
1.) Plan, plan and plan some more. This is so very important before starting your renovation. The more planning and forethought you put into your renovation the better. It will save you time and money having every inch of your renovation planned out down to placement electrical plugs, the brand and type of appliances and even the cabinet handles. Waiting for decisions to be made can really slow down your renovation!!!!
2.) Hire good contractors/or trades. We have all heard the nightmares of renovations gone wrong because of bad contractors or trades, but it doesn’t have to be that way. There are many high quality contractors and trades who take pride in their work and want to make their customers happy. Before starting your renovation, talk to friends, coworkers, and neighbours about who they have used in the past and their experience with them. Word of mouth is usually a good way to find a great contractor or trade. Don’t base your decision solely on price, get a few quotes and look for the most detailed ones as that will help you to avoid “extra charges” or things that were missed in the original quote.
3.) Communication! You need to be able to communicate your plan to your contractor/trade. You need to be available for when issues may arise during the renovation process. This is when all the planning you did initially will come in to play. Communication is crucial to have a smooth renovation process.
4.) Find alternate living arrangements, if possible. Ideally you could move out temporarily or even to another part of the home. There is a lot going on during a renovation. With trades in and out of your home and dust and noise, its best to budget for alternate living arrangements for the renovation. If that’s not possible, making a make-shift kitchen somewhere else in the house where you and your family will be far out of the way of the people working to complete your renovation.
Hopefully you can use some of these tips to help you with your dream kitchen or bathroom!
